Class of 2010 point guard plays well at Rumble in the Bronx and has colleges calling
Even after leaving the Washington, DC area for North Carolina, Daryl Traynham continued to impress followers on the court. Some might have lost track of his whereabouts, but Daryl Traynham is Earning Attention Again. His impressive play came to New York City last weekend as he impressed onlookers at the recent Rumble in the Bronx.
Standing in the vicinity of 5-foot-9 and packing a solid frame into his 170 pounds, Daryl Traynham is the engine of the DC Assault machine. In Jeff Borzello’s Rumble in the Bronx: Staturday report, he offered up these notes in his scouting report of Traynham:
He is a terrific passer, both in a half-court setting and while running the fast-break. He makes solid entry passes and finds the open man despite his 5-8 stature. Traynham can also create his own shot, taking defenders off the dribble and getting into the lane. He can finish against taller players, and does not shy away from contract in the paint. Traynham also has a nice pull-up game, which comes in handy when driving to the basket against bigger guys. He has excellent ball-handling skills and rarely turns the ball over while dribble. Defensively, he has quick hands and picked up a few steals as a result. Traynham has very good court understanding and always knows where everyone is.
It is no surprise, with true point guards always in demand, that several schools have taken the time to dial Traynham’s phone this week, the first time college coaches have been allowed to phone the prospects of 2010.
“Flordia, UMass, Fordham (and) Wake Forest called,” Traynham informed the NBE Basketball Report today. This is in addition to Miami and Xaiver who called earlier in the week as well previous offers mentioned from Syracuse, Kansas State, Oregon and St. Joe’s.
“Daryl Traynham compares favorably to Drew Lavender of Xavier,” according to Damon Handon, Assistant to Director of Basketball Operations for DC Assault. “Some might question his size, but not his heart.”
It took some time to adjust to his move from DC to Vance High School in the Charlotte (NC), but you wouldn’t know it from the results on the floor as Traynham led Vance deep into the North Carolina state playoffs.
“The biggest adjustment from NC to DC was that it was alot slower but once I got adjusted to it I loved it,” Traynham said.
For the summer, Daryl will continue to run with the DC Assault program and hit events such as the Adidas Take 5 Classic in Cincinnati, Team Breakdown Tournament in Florida as well as events in Los Angeles and Las Vegas, all the while fine-tuning his game to draw more attention from the college recruiters.
“I will spend most of my time this summer working on my jumpshot and getting stronger,” Traynham said.
