Class of 2010 elite prospect had coaches calling early and often
Sunday, June 15th was the first day college coaches were permitted to call prospects of the class of 2010. One number that was dialed early and often was the phone of Tobias Harris, a 6’8, 215 lb small forward from Half Hollows Hills West High School on Long Island (NY).
Tobias’ father, Torrel Harris Sr., relayed the list of schools calling Tobias to the NBE Basketball report this morning. Among the schools were Big East coaches from West Virginia, Connecticut, St. John’s, Syracuse, Notre Dame, Louisville, Rutgers and Providence.
The Big East isn’t the only source of interest in the skills of the younger Harris as schools from the ACC (Virginia, Maryland, NC State and Wake Forest), SEC (Florida and South Carolina), Big 12 (Texas) and Conference USA (Memphis) also placed calls.
Over the weekend, Tobias continued his world tour of college campuses with stops at West Virginia and Virginia for camps. The trips went well, according to his father, “Tobias played well at West Virginia and Virginia Elite camps this weekend. He was offered a scholarship from both head coaches after camp ended.”
The new scholarship offers can be added to the list that already included schools such as UConn, Rutgers, Marquette, Indiana, Maryland and Arizona.
Tobias has also recently attended an elite camp at Kansas and plans are in the works for stops at Syracuse, Louisville, Marquette, Rutgers, Connecticut, Indiana, Florida, Maryland, Arizona, Indiana and Memphis this summer among other basketball events.
One things is certain, the trips to WVU and Virginia left a positive impresson on the 2010 prospect. “Tobias stated to me both schools rank very high on his list,” according to Torrel. “He was very impressed with (the) West Virginia and Virginia coaching staffs and the schools.”
There is no doubt, Tobias Harris is one of the elite recruits in the class of 2010.
