Edwin Getting Big East Looks, Could Play with Friend
By Ron Bailey
June 16, 2008 – The New Jersey area is an area ripe with basketball talent; there is no wonder both Rutgers and Seton Hall, both Big East Conference institutions situated in the state have made recruiting local talent a priority. Enter Fuquan Edwin.

Standing around 6”5” and weighing in the vicinity of 180 pounds, the Class of 2010’s Edwin has distinguished himself as an athletic slasher whose game is continuing to evolve. During last month’s Take Your Best Shot tournament (TYBS), a travel team confab sponsored by DC Assault and held at Virginia’s Hoop Magic Sports Academy, Edwin not only pounded the rims – for which he is well known – but also hit perimeter shots and displayed growing ball patting skills. All of these were acknowledged by Fuquan as necessities going forward. (fuquan-edwin-on-skills)

For his work, Fuquan, who plays for the Playaz organization, was named to the event’s 16 and under Second Team.
Joining Fuquan with the Playaz was his best friend and fellow Paterson Catholic classmate and teammate, Jayon James (see previous story: Jayon James Has Skills, Big East Offers). Last year during a highly successful sophomore high school season, Edwin shared he averaged around “15 points and seven rebounds” (fuquan-edwin-on-2007-2008-stats), while teaming with James, a guy he’s grown up with.
Interestingly enough, their friendship and bond may continue in college, as Edwin revealed a package deal involving the two would be of great interest to both young guys. (fuquan-edwin-on-frendship-with-jayon-james)
Two schools that have already provided that opportunity are guess who, Jersey’s own Seton Hall and Rutgers. (fuquan-edwin-on-schools)
Will the two Paterson, NJ products chose to stay in-state? Possibly, but they both are receiving interest from other schools, which for Fuquan also includes Texas.
Stay tuned, keeping the talented duo in-state could be crucial to the ascension of both Rutgers and Seton Hall not only in the Big East, but nationally.
