2010 Orange commit looks forward to playing for Hall of Fame coach
Philadelphia native Dion Waiters made a big splash when he committed to Jim Boehiem and his Syracuse Orange program prior to every playing a high school varsity basketball game prior to his sophomore season. After leaving Philly for South Kent Prep in Connecticut, the 6’3 guard has been impressive in every setting and definitely knows how to score the basketball.
Last month, Alex Schwartz caught up with the scoring guard on the AAU trail as Waiters was competing with Team Final at the Southern Jam Fest to talk SU and Waiters’ game on the court.
Dion Says . . .
Biggest Strength: “I can do everything: rebound, pass, score, [get] my teammates involved. I can do it all.”
Biggest Weakness: “Moving without the ball.”
On Why he Chose Syracuse: “First because, I just want to play for a Hall of Fame coach, and he lets the guards go, so I feel comfortable in the offense.”
On Whether he is Concerned with Syracuse’s Lack of Postseason Success the Past Two Years: “No because that’s why I feel as though I can go there and . . . make the [NCAA] Tournament and yeah, I just want to play with Syracuse.”
On Whether he was Always Planning on Committing Early: ” It just happened honestly. . . . I don’t know how it happened, but it happened.”
