May 28, 2008 – Standing five-foot-nine inches tall and weighing a sturdy 160+ pounds, sophomore (class of 2010) Daryl Traynham doesn’t suffer from a lack of stature – the floor general point guard is well known in recuitnik circles, and is becoming increasingly coveted by Division I schools. Long known for his ability to run a team and play pretty good on-ball defense, including using guile and cleverness to create turnovers, Traynham has shown no ill effects from moving to Charlotte, NC from Washington, D.C. during this past school year.

Transferring to Vance High School, Daryl Traynham made quite an impact on the North Carolina basketball scene, leading the school to that state’s Final Four. (Daryl Traynham on Vance HS). But the move has meant much more to Daryl, as it re-illustrated to him his love for the game (Daryl Traynham on discovering love of game), and strengthened his commitment to academics (Daryl Traynham on Academic Progress): It’s not that Traynham didn’t love the sport or understand the importance of scholastics, the plethora of distractions in the D.C. area in a certain measure eroded his attention, which is now back intact.

Moving down the East Coast has not diminished his recruitment in any fashion, given the attention he has received to date, including offers from Kansas State, Oregon, Xavier, St. Joseph’s and Syracuse. (Daryl Traynham discusses college offers). For the Big East, a league the floor general termed “a guard conference”, Daryl has much “love” (Daryl Traynham Talks Big East), which is also generated by the league’s coaches allowing players to play (Daryl Traynham on plusses of Big East).

This summer, expect Traynham to continue leading his DC Assault 17 and under squad, during which time he plans to assist two teammates – future Kansas State players Rodney McGruder and Wally Judge – in achieving McDonald All-American status. (Daryl Traynham talks on helping DC Assault teammates).

Whether that transpires has yet to be seen, but be certain Daryl will continue working on his game, including strengthening his perimeter shot, as doing so will lift his game to new heights. If his play in DC Assault’s Take Your Best Shot (TYBS) tournament is any indication, Traynham has great things ahead this summer (he was named First Team 17 and under All-TYBS).

Keep getting it done Daryl. We see you.
