League Tells NBE that there are no talks with any institution regarding expansion
Fox 13 out of Memphis reported yesterday that the University of Memphis and the Big East were involved in serious discussions about Big East expansion and the University of Memphis Tigers Could Upgrade to the Big East. Reporter Matt Stark looks into if Memphis is Big East Bound as a result of these serious talks, which Fox 13 confirmed with unnamed sources.
Responding to the reports, Big East Associate Commissioner John Paquette told the NBE Basketball Report earlier today there is no truth to these rumors. In an e-mail, Paquette addressed the Fox 13 report with the NBE Basketball Report: “Regarding the Memphis television report, which refers only to unnamed sources, I will repeat what Mike Tranghese told the Hartford Courant. We are not talking about expansion with any institution.”
That is a pretty clear-cut and precise denial from the Big East. So, for now, the issue is put to rest.
