CHARM CITY CHALLENGE PLAYER ANALYSIS

April 7, 2008 by · 1 Comment

The Baltimore All-Stars won for the fourth straight time over the USA All-Stars in the Charm City Challenge, evening the series at 4-4. A first quarter-ending 16-2 run put the locals in the lead 29-17 and they never looked back in their 107-82 win at the Towson Center Sunday afternoon.

With Big East commitments such as Henry Sims, Nasir Robinson, Roscoe Davis and Kris Joseph on display, the NBE Basketball Report made sure we had team coverage of the event.

First up, Brian Crownover, lead recruiting analyst of CAA Insider, breaks down the performances of the Big East committed players, as well as Chris Turner, an unsigned 2008 prospect who drops his latest school list that has a Big East school in the mix for his signature on a late signing period letter of intent.

Baltimore All-Stars 107 U.S. All-Stars 82 (boxscore)

Henry Sims (Georgetown)

Henry played a solid game. The long armed big man had several lay-ins and athletic dunk. He ran the floor and converted on an alley oop. He was able to finish after contact on occasion. Henry missed a turn around jumper as well as hook shot in the post. He played some on the perimeter, but missed several jumpers. He did have a huge game on the boards and he blocked some shots. He really does a good job of going after rebounds. Henry has decent size, but still there’s room for him to get stronger and overpower people. He does need some work on his post game too. Henry finished with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocked shots in the win.

Chris Turner (unsigned)

Chris is a big guard who likes to shoot from the perimeter. He hit a couple pull up jumpers, including a three. He did struggle from the outside though. Chris was just 2-10 from behind the arc. He had an athletic dunk and scored several other times in transition. He had some trouble guarding the smaller and quicker Troy Franklin (Towson). Chris did finish with 14 points, but took quite a few shots to do so.

Turner has re-opened his recruitment since the coaching change at Oregon State and is currently looking at Seton Hall, Virginia, East Carolina, Baylor and Wake Forest (all offers).

Nasir Robinson (Pittsburgh)

Nasir had his usual strong game in transition. He attacked off the dribble too and converted with several nice finishes, including a bank shot and floater. He scored after contact on one play. Nasir hit a couple free throws, but still has to work on that as well as his jumper. He rebounds a lot on his high school team, but didn’t do too much of that with the bigger players in this game. Nasir was efficient and ended with 15 points.

Roscoe Davis (West Virginia)

Roscoe has a combination of inside and outside skills. The big man had a quick post move and finished with a hook shot. He also had a drive and spin move, but couldn’t convert. Roscoe handles the ball well for his size and can drive from the perimeter. He struggled with his jumper as he had a couple misses, including from three point land.

Kris Joseph (Syracuse)

This Syracuse commit was very disappointing. Kris didn’t score a single point in the contest. He missed a turn around jumper and was blocked after a drive. Kris did pull down four rebounds in just 15 minutes, but he was quiet.
